EMERGENCY HUMANITARIAN RESPONSE & DRM

Bangladesh ranks as the eighth most severely impacted nation by natural disasters worldwide. Bangladesh hosts 963,038 Rohingya refugees in Cox’s Bazar District & Bhasan Char Island. There is a total of 6.7 million people in need and 3.3 million people yet to be reached.

Bangladesh has a history of frequent natural disasters, including cyclones, floods, and landslides, due to its low-lying geography. These events have caused widespread devastation, loss of life, and displacement of people. SMKK has tried to make some significant efforts to improve disaster preparedness and response but remains vulnerable to the impact of climate change and extreme weather events, making disaster management a critical ongoing challenge.

SMKK has undertaken a comprehensive range of activities to address disasters and their impact. These efforts encompass emergency humanitarian response, including the distribution of essential items like food, shelter, health services, WASH (Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene), protection, and non-food items. Additionally, SMKK has engaged in recovery, rehabilitation, and disaster risk reduction (DRR) initiatives. Moreover, they have actively participated in climate change adaptation strategies and implemented cash-for-work programs, all with the overarching goal of mitigating human suffering and minimizing the consequences of disasters.
